Each bead is approximately 1 inch long

The necklace is approximately 19 inches in length, has 7 slices of tagua nut and is guaranteed to be colourful and lightweight to wear.  You’ll want one in every colour!

A hard ivory like material obtained from the tagua nut is found on certain palm trees in South America.  The Tagua Nut is also known as vegetable ivory due to its close resemblance to elephant ivory.

How are they made?  Well, the bumpy exterior of the seed is smoothed and the hard shell that remains is then cut to expose a cream-coloured center, which is cut and coloured to create beautiful unique beads.

Purple 7 Slice Tagua Nut Necklace

On a gunmetal curb chain with matching gunmetal toggle clasp

Each bead is approximately 1 inch long

The necklace is approximately 19 inches in length, has 7 slices of tagua nut and is guaranteed to be colourful and lightweight to wear.  You’ll want one in every colour!

How are they made?

The tagua nut or vegetable ivory nut comes from a palm like tree called Phytelephas Macrocarpa Palmae or Phytelephas Equatorialis. The tree grows to a height of 20 to 40 feet tall in several tropical rainforest regions in South America.

The tagua nuts are the size of hen’s eggs and grow in large pods called a cabeza which take a number of years to grow and ripen. When the cabeza ripens, it falls to the ground. Before the nut matures it has a milky sweet liquid in the center with a jelly like consistency and can be eaten.

The tagua nuts are gathered and dried for a number of weeks after which they become very hard and have the look and texture of ivory, hence the name vegetable ivory. The nut is then carved and coloured to make stunning and individual beads.

Please Note: As our Tagua Nut slices are handmade the sizes, colours and shapes may vary slightly from those shown.  Makes it even more individual.  Like you!

We have earrings and bracelets which match too!

Vegetable ivory offers an alternative to the senseless killing

    Eva – 4th December 2016:

I was looking for a Tagua nut necklace because it is super light.

I was thrilled to find Rebecca’s website and ordered 2 necklaces: one in blue and another in purple. I am very happy with both. You don’t feel the necklace at all. But you can certainly see it! The colors are really beautifully rich!

Also the price is very reasonable.

However the best thing about this online experience is Rebacca herself. She is very efficient, friendly and very reliable. She was very quick answering questions that I had. She was very accommodating when I asked for lengthening the chain in such a way that will enable me to wear both longer and shorter options.

I am very happy to recommend wholeheartedly the buying experience and the necklaces I bought.

    THANK YOU REBECCA!
